HYIC, y’all. It’s the calm before the storm so this is fair warning. I said yesterday that this blog is very separate from me the musician, and it is, except you can only be so separate, right? I mean, the reason why all this music business/writing/ology stuff is so interesting is exactly because I am a musician and writer myself, because I relate so immediately to it. So anyways, the blogging about otherworldly things may get a bit sparse, since today, Friday the 13th, begins the recording for my new album. It’s fair to say that my mind is elsewhere.
Right now I am thinking about things like how am i going to fit all these songs on one CD and am i seriously going to regret omitting this or that song? Also I have to remember to eat, which seems fairly extraneous at the moment. There’s a balance that you have to find when recording an album; there is not a definitive version of a song, but you do have to believe in the version that you end up with, you have to really want this particular version at this particular moment, versus the other ways or words. In the end, all that really matters is that you look back on it and say that is what it looked like.
So what does it look like? Tricky question. All I got right now are some feelings about fall.
good luck on your album, yo.
